KASURI WORKSHOP

A one-week workshop was conducted at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, where students were taught how to prepare ikat warps using binding techniques. The workshop introduced fundamental principles of resist patterning, including methods for planning, binding, and dyeing warp threads to create characteristic ikat designs. The teaching drew on knowledge developed during textile studies at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2023, as well as on practical experience gained through a residency at the Japanese Kurume Kasuri weaving workshop Shimogawa Orimono in 2024.
